WHERE WE FISH FOR WILD ALASKA POLLOCK

THE BERING SEA

We harvest Wild Alaska Pollock from the pristine Bering Sea which is in the North Pacific Ocean west of Alaska and north of the Aleutian Island chain.

A UNIQUE FISHERY

A deep-water basin to the Bering Sea’s east rises to shallower waters on its western shelves. A rich and productive ecosystem boasts the largest certified sustainable fishery in the world.

NORTHERN OPERATIONS

While our home port is in Seattle, Washington, our Bering Sea operations are staged out of Dutch Harbor, Unalaska, Alaska. Fishing seasons run from January through April and from June through October.

OUR VESSELS

AN ADVANCED FLEET

American Seafoods maintains a fleet of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) fishing vessels. Onboard each vessel, leading-edge and highly efficient technologies aim to streamline operations at sea, maximize safety for the crew, and minimize impact on the environment.

FISHING METHOD

Wild Alaska Pollock is harvested using mid-water (or pelagic) trawl nets which are designed to minimize the catch of untargeted species (bycatch).

ONBOARD OVERSIGHT

Two federal observers from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) journey with American Seafoods on every voyage to monitor and record federally mandated quotas for Wild Alaska Pollock and bycatch.

HARVESTING AND PROCESSING

AT-SEA PROCESSING

To provide higher nutrition, taste, and freshness, our fishing vessels process and freeze Wild Alaska Pollock within hours of harvest and while still at sea. To minimize waste, we utilize every part of each fish to produce a variety of high-quality fish products.

FULL TRACEABILITY

Every product is labeled with the date and time of processing, as well as the individual vessel, trip, species and catch areas.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

A sustainable catch, at-sea processing, and efficient distribution make the Wild Alaska Pollock fishery one of the most environmentally friendly sources of protein in the world.

SUPPLY CHAIN AND DISTRIBUTION

A GLOBAL EFFORT

The unique challenges of remote Bering Sea operations require the services of the world’s best cold-storage and logistics partners. Our global distribution network is driven by people with vast supply chain experience and by technologies that help assure customers of on-time deliveries of high-quality seafood and fish products.

WHERE WE FISH FOR WILD PACIFIC HAKE

THE NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN

The vast Pacific Ocean is the largest of the world’s oceans. The eastern region of the North Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of Alaska to the Baja California peninsula is home to Wild Pacific Hake.

A HEALTHY STOCK

The coastal stock of Wild Pacific Hake is large, healthy, and the most abundant commercial fish stock along the US West coast. We harvest Wild Pacific Hake some 200 miles off the shores of Oregon and Washington.

CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE

The Wild Pacific Hake fishery is certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and is managed by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and other agencies. The annual fishing season runs from May through December.
